No I am not talking about Paris Hilton with her terrible trembling little barker that she uses as a fashion statement by putting it on the latest Prada dogsuit or Channel belt...guess again... it is not her new lover... also not her new song... and sorry also not the latest Disney movie. Ok I guess I really have to clarify my title this time. Well, these were places that I've visited the last couple of days.
Have you ever been to a place on earth which looks like ET's home town? So strange that it can hardly be a place on earth? Well I have and it's not even that far from Dobrich, you don't have to travel several light years. It's just around the corner from Varna.
Have you ever watched a show on the Discovery Channel about underwater life (Finding Nemo is not included)? There they often say: why travel into space while the bottom of the sea is still very much unknown to people? The Pluto place that I've visited was actually under water thousands and thousands of years ago. It looks quite strange, however it's very obvious that it used to be under water. A lot of stones have holes in it, which can only be formed by water. There was even one hole there with a legend... if you are able to manoeuvre yourself through the small hole you are allowed to make one wish. That's a challenge that Marieke will always take... in the end I managed.
A couple of days after arriving in Bulgaria for the first time I had discovered a small travel agency with bus tickets from Dobrich to Istanbul. Most of you must know by now that I always try to see as much as possible when I’m travelling. So after seeing that travel agency I immediately decided for myself, I’m gonna do that! My time here in Bulgaria is almost up (will fly back to Holland on the 3rd of April) so really had to make my plans happen. Bought bus tickets with the help of my good friend Toshko and of we go 10 hours in a bus on our way to Turkey. No English speaking people on board but hey that’s no problem (anyway why would they need any English speaking people, I bet they never have any tourist travelling by bus from Dobrich to Istanbul – that’s why they probably looked at us very strange all the time). Only the steward knew some English, it went something like this: arriving at the border…10 sentences explanation in Turkish…translation to us: passport (accompanied by the body language as if he was making a stamp) followed by a whistle. Arrival…again whole story in Turkish…translation: finish, followed by a whistle. But anyways at least they tried to help us and that was actually the case during our whole stay in Istanbul. People were very friendly and helpful (a lot of men a bit to friendly most of the time, but that’s how it goes in Turkey).
But now you still don’t understand the relation to Paris Hilton right? Well, I am Dutch, that means that we always want to have the cheapest price possible. So before I left to Istanbul I had decided to book a hostel online and chose the cheapest one of course! It was right in the centre of Sultanahmed (the neighbourhood with all the sight seeing spots like the Blue Mosque, some palaces, bazaar etc.) and from the website all the hostels seemed the same anyway. Arriving there it was not exactly the Hilton but more like a cheaper version of Hilton, like Paris Hilton… and what a coincidence…the hotel was called Paris Hotel.
