TUI TRAVELS

"Egypt, where the time has stopped"

Hotel Description:
Hotel Moon Light, situated on one of the busiest streets of Cairo, the cars will not stop beeping at night. Across the road you will find a mosque which will provide you with some prayers multiple times a day, which will also not stop at night.
Room: 2 beds with no sheets, only blankets; flooded bathroom, balcony with non closing doors, TV without channels, no dustbin, no clean towels and no soap/shampoo etc.
Restaurant: rice, frites, 2 beans, non clarified meat and chloride water (other drinks on own account).

DAY 1: After a long travel and no sleep you will go to a press conference which will take approximately 2-3 hours and will be entirely in Arabic. Followed by a visit to a floating restaurant on the Nile where we have one drink (alcoholic beverages on own account) and will stay for hours although you will feel cold and tired.

DAY 2: 11.00am breakfast. The rest of the day you will spend in a stadium waiting until the opening ceremony starts. Finally the ceremony will start in which you have to participate by walking and do your best to look extra European.

DAY 3: Spending the day at the sports field, where in total 2 games will be played. Followed by the unique experience of an “Egyptian supermarket: Carrefour.”

DAY 4: You will have 20 minutes to see the pyramids from at least 2km distance and 5 more minutes to see the sphinx from 1km distance. Than we hurry to the university to attend the closing ceremony, which will again take approximately 3 hours and will be completely in Arabic. In the evening you will get one hour to buy all your souvenirs at the local bazaar.

DAY 5: Alexandria, get ready by 7.00am but after waiting for some hours we will leave around 9.30am. Spend 5 hours in a small bus, 1 hour in a castle in Alexandria and go back.

DAY 6: Back home.
--------------------------------------------

Would you buy this holiday? No? Me neither, luckily I got it for free, otherwise I would have lynched those Egyptians. So you understand that the program was far from perfect and unfortunately we didn’t really get the opportunity to see much of Egypt. But I didn’t want my trip to get spoiled by any of this so I got as much out of it as possible. The group of students that I went with was great. In addition there were 2 other groups one also from Bulgaria and the other from Romania. It was nice to get to know all of them. And for them it was even nicer to get to know me :)… I’ve got a lot of marriage proposals.
The Romanians kept forgetting my name so teacher was easier. We spend a number of evenings with them and a lot of shisha’s.
Together with everybody including some Egyptian boys we still made this trip into a success.
