With an Adventure that is written with a captital A goes a Journey with a capital J. It took more than 27 hours before I finally reached my destination, Georgetown, Guyana. After my goodbye at Schiphol (with lots of tears) and final hugs from loved ones (thanks guys for being there, really appreciated it!)I took a trip half around the world with lots of waiting time in between. We've made an extra stop in St. Lucia which I wasn't aware of but what I did really like. It was just wonderful to see dozens of those little Carribbean paradises beneath me. Water with the most beautiful colours, white beaches and brocolli forests. However landing in St. Lucia made my heart pound a lot faster not only because of its beauty but especially because we were almost landing in the sea. The plane was about to land and all one could see was water, the airstrip is right next to the coast so no mistakes can be made there. Than 6 hours in Trinidad, and there's nothing there. Just one hallway with uncomfortable chairs, 6 hours is loooong in those circumstances. So I got crankier by the minute. I reached the top of my craknyness when entering the plane to Georgetown and witnessed my seat, in the middle, a very big lady on one side and another very big lady on the other. Leaving lets say 1/4 of my seat for me, nice... Luckily it took less than an hour.
Georgetown it is now, colonial wooden buildings, hot & humid and attention wanting males are my first impressions. Yesterday I was the first VSO volunteer that arrived, this morning another group arrived and the last group will come in tonight. Then we'll start the In Country Training (ICT - as they call it) tomorrow. The program looks quite interesting, informative sessions combined with social activities. With our first day trip on Wednesday!
We are staying in Rima guest house which seems to be a grandma's house that you walk into, but it's really cozy and the ladies are sweet.
So during the ICT I also hope to get some more information on my exact whereabouts for the coming 2 years, my work, colleagues etc. But first Georgetown...

Vanaf het vliegveld van Trinidad (inderdaad niks te doen, maar wel internet, hoera!) lezen wij vol spanning je verslag... Minder dan een uur vliegen klinkt positief, morgen al keihard van start met de ICT is wat minder... Tot over een paar uur!! -

Ben benieuwd hoe de training was. Iedereen weer helemaal bekomen van de reis?
Al lastige mannen ontmoet?
Nog ruim 4 weken en dan zijn we samen op het continent Zuid Amerika, Brasil, Brasil.
Als je goed kijkt kunnen we naar elkaar zwaaien, maar dan moet je wel heel goed kijken.
