That was just a short intermezzo of something that has been on my mind the last couple of weeks now first back to our last event. Hundreds of kids, beautiful weather, singing, soccer and boere wors. I was a wonderful day with a lot of interaction with the local kids. It was so nice to see how the kids were climbing on top of the orange fans and how they played together. Additionally our band ‘Vanavond niet Schat’ sang together with the kids and jammed with one of the Stars in their Eyes coaches Ricardo. Great to see cultures blending together.
Than my last game: NL – Cameroon, I was sitting on row 9, soooo close to the field. And it was definitely the most exciting game up until then. It’s still an indescribable feeling to be in a stadium, in Cape Town, during the World Cup. WOW!
The last couple of days it was quiet at the camp site, many guests already left, others were exploring Cape Town. So time for me to also start exploring. We’ve had wonderful dinners at the waterfront, view on table mountain and the ocean, a little wine and tasteful bites. What a life! But there’s also time for some action. We jumped on a boat to see seals, climbed mountains to see penguins and rode a mountain bike to the Cape of Good Hope. That was for sure one of my most memorable moments of this trip. The most Southern tip of Africa, with so much history, hard wind, splashing water and blue skies.
But one cannot leave Africa without having seen the king of the jungle: the lion! So off to a nature reserve to hunt down the BIG 5. Elephant: check, rhino: check, buffalo: check, lion: check! Only the cheetah was missing. But 4 out of 5 will do. And… because the ranger liked us so much we got the opportunity to play with lion cubs. Three of them, 5 and 7 months old, so cute, but already very strong and the hunters instinct is shining through.
Now home again, don’t realize it yet. Everything went so fast. Approximately 5 weeks to go and then I’ll leave for Guyana. The coming weeks I’ll be busy with taking care of administrative stuff, taking a couple more motorcycle lessons, getting more shots and of course enjoying my time left here in Holland with friends and family.
I would like to invite you all for my goodbye party. Sunday the 1st of August, 14.00 hrs in Westerpark. We’re gonna have a picnic, so bring some home made snacks and drinks! Hope to see you all there!

Hey,
